On November 21st 2025, I offered a full day workshop about NonViolent Communication for over 40 people from the Comox Valley and further.

First, I want to thank Karen McKinnon, Managing Director of the Community Justice Centre, and Chris Bate, Executive Director of the Senior Support North Vancouver Island for this opportunity. I am so grateful that I was able to share meaningful information about NonViolent Communication with my local community. It aligns with my vision of a resilient community that lives in harmony, resolving its conflicts with wisdom.

Conflict is a part of life and learning about NonViolent Communication, all the way to becoming a mediator, taught me that having the skills to deal with conflict is essential.

Now, I share what I have learned and support others on this path that I continue to grow on.

I offered my first NonViolent Communication workshop in 2021 to the team at Réseau-Femmes Colombie-Britannique, an organisation dear to my heart, and I measure how much I have improved since then.

How do I measure that? I send an anonymous feedback form after each workshop with closed-ended questions that are the same from one workshop to the next to have a clear comparison. I also offer participants a chance to give more personal feedback with questions such as "what worked well in the workshop?". Below is one answer I received :

“The facilitator's careful presentation of materials to be presented, her willingness to interact with participants, her ability to create a comfortable setting, creating opportunities for participants to "get to know" one another, providing references for further exploration of topic, being mindful of time and wrapping things up in a timely manner.”

Reading this feedback was heartwarming. It gave me a sense of meaning and growth.

Over the years, I have refined my facilitating skills, from adding small group activities to finding my own voice: a humorous one for sure!

The picture on the left shows the result of one of the activities that I've recently added: the flower of needs.

It's a great ice breaker activity where participants can get to know each other while having fun. It creates connection and contributes to building a sense of safety in the group. And of course, it is connected to the rest of the course!

I concluded the workshop with this quote from Miki Kashtan:

”Nonviolence is the courage to speak truth with love... and love is the full radical acceptance of the humanity of every person.”

In this time of divide, this approach shows us a different way : conflict can be an opportunity for connection, once you have the skills and some practice under your belt.

Whether you’re an individual looking to embody this approach in your life or an organization seeking to create a resilient team, NonViolent Communication offers tools to transform challenges into growth.

Even one small step, such as slowing down your conversations, can make a difference. As you pause, empathy becomes possible.

If you’re ready to dive deeper, I’m here to support you. If you are an organization, let’s collaborate and bring NonViolent Communication workshops to your team. As for individuals, if you’re navigating a conflict and want guidance, reach out for individual coaching or a mediated conversation.
